Anonymous client case study

From limited search visibility to 99 number-one rankings.

An international wholesale jewelry e-commerce business moved from a narrow organic footprint to broad commercial coverage across supplier, category and product-intent searches. The client name is withheld; the dates and numbers are not.

Confidentiality and attribution: the active client domain, brand and screenshots are withheld. The ranking figures come from the supplied Semrush Position Tracking export. The GA4 revenue figure describes the commercial scale visible in the supplied report; it is not presented as revenue caused solely by SEO.

The starting point

The business sells a large wholesale jewelry catalogue to international buyers. At the start of the supplied rank-tracking period, the site had only 2.31% visibility across the monitored keyword set. Of 338 tracked queries, 90 had a recorded ranking, 19 were in the top 10, eight were in the top three and four held position one.

That is a recognizable e-commerce problem. The business may be credible and the catalogue may be commercially strong, but Google only sees a limited set of pages as strong answers for the terms buyers use. When this happens, adding more products does not solve the problem. The site needs broader, clearer ownership of commercial search intent.

The growth model

No tactic-by-tactic implementation log was supplied for publication, so this case study does not invent one. What the export does prove is the outcome: visibility expanded across a much larger share of the commercial query set, including manufacturer, supplier, wholesale category and product-type searches.

For a store like this, that kind of expansion depends on the same connected areas covered in our e-commerce SEO work: technical crawl control, category and collection ownership, product-page support, internal links, clean indexation and enough useful content for buyers and search engines to understand why one page should rank instead of another.

The strongest evidence is not one headline keyword. It is the distribution. By the final export date, 248 of 338 monitored queries had a recorded ranking, 193 were in the top 20, 150 were in the top 10 and 106 were in the top three. That is a broader commercial footprint, not a single lucky position.

What moved

The keyword set contains commercially meaningful wholesale searches rather than a list padded with irrelevant informational terms. Examples from the anonymized export include manufacturer, supplier, wholesale silver-jewelry, earrings, necklaces and retailer-intent queries.

Several representative movements show the scale of the change:

  • A broad wholesale silver-jewelry term moved from position 59 to position one.
  • A plain silver wholesale term moved from position 93 to position one.
  • A wholesale silver earrings term moved from position 84 to position one.
  • A wholesale silver necklace term moved from position 93 to position nine.
  • A Thailand jewelry-wholesale term moved from position 54 to position five.

The public version intentionally paraphrases the exact queries where publishing them would make the client easier to identify. The original export was used for the counts.

The commercial context

The supplied GA4 e-commerce view shows $1.20 million in purchase revenue, 4,435 ecommerce purchases, 764 purchasers and 368,300 items purchased in the selected reporting view. It also shows revenue spread across the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands and other markets.

Those numbers matter because SEO for a wholesale store should support a real commercial system, not create traffic for its own sake. But they need to be read honestly. The screenshot does not show an organic-only segment or the selected date range. We therefore use the revenue as evidence of business scale and international demand, not as a clean SEO-attribution figure.

What this case proves

It proves that a wholesale e-commerce site can build broad first-page coverage when the search programme is treated as a catalogue and architecture problem, not a blog-volume contest. It also shows why one keyword is a poor success metric. The result became durable because many commercially related pages and queries moved together.

It does not prove that every store will reach 99 number-one rankings, or that the same timeline applies to every market. Domain history, competition, catalogue quality, technical constraints and implementation speed all change the outcome. Our SEO timeline guide explains those variables in more detail.

The practical lesson

If an e-commerce business has hundreds or thousands of products but only a small number of ranking categories, the first question is not “how many more articles should we publish?” The first question is whether the site gives each important commercial intent a clear, indexable and internally supported owner.

That is the difference between isolated ranking wins and a search channel that compounds. A proper SEO audit should identify where that ownership is missing, where filters or duplicate paths waste crawl attention, and which categories deserve the first round of work.
